Trump’s Executive Order will include a requirement to disclose contracted rates.
U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Azar and White House officials held a meeting this morning to explain an executive order that the President plans on releasing today on healthcare price transparency.
Officials said that the executive order will direct that rules be written requiring hospitals to be transparent about their prices, including costs based on negotiated rates.
“The order itself does not carry the force of law, but requires HHS to develop the requirements and details through rulemaking about the exact information hospitals will have to disclose,” said Matthew Albright, a former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) official who first reported the story during Monitor Mondays. “Depending on how the rules are written, a requirement to disclose this information would have much more ramifications for the healthcare industry than the surprise balance billing issue.”
RACmonitor will continue to report on this developing story.
