Question:

We’ve heard there is some new guidance regarding 76988 for 2024. Is this true? If so how does it impact which procedures should not be reported in conjunction with the code?

Answer:

Yes, a new parenthetical note for 76998 relays that 76998 should not be reported in conjunction with:

  • Incompetent vein ablation
  • Ligation of perforator veins
  • Hemorrhoidectomy
  • Ablation of liver tumors
  • Epiaortic IOUS/Intraoperative Cardiac Ultrasound
  • Insertion of wireless cardiac stimulation system for LV pacing
