Question:
Have the codes to report presumptive drug tests changed this year?
Answer:
Prior to 2017, HCPCS level II codes G0477, G0478, and G0479 were used to describe presumptive drug tests. For 2017, the American Medical Association’s CPT Editorial Panel established new CPT codes 80305, 80306, and 80307, to describe the same presumptive drug tests as the HCPCS G-codes. Consequently, the HCPCS G-codes were terminated on December 31, 2016.
