Major Changes Announced for Upcoming Coordination and Maintenance Committee

The Federal Register has published a change to the Sept. 9-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee Meeting. The Federal Register states that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will not present Procedure Code System (PCS) code topics during the Fall Meeting. Rather, instead, CMS will post the ICD-10-PCS code topic materials online and provide time for public comments.

The comments can be sent to [email protected]. There are two deadlines based on the requested implementation date. For a requested April 1, 2026 implementation, the deadline is Oct. 10, 2025. For a requested Oct. 1, 2026 implementation, the deadline is Nov. 14, 2025.

CMS will post a questions-and-answers document with the comments.

The tentative agenda for the procedures as published includes the following:

  2. Dilation Using Electromechanical Obstetrical Dilator**
  3. Dilation of the Inferior Vena Cava with an Open-Structure Lattice Stent**
  4. Insertion of a Lumenless Small Diameter Defibrillator Lead**

  6. Computer-Aided Assessment of Glucose***
  7. Bypass of Inferior Vena Cava Using Autologous Cell Seeded Tissue Engineered Resorbable Scaffold*

  12. Administration of ZEMAIRA**

The * indicates requested for April 1, 2026 implementation.

The ** indicates requested for April 1, 2026 implementation and NTAP

The *** indicates requested for Oct. 1, 2026 implementation.

The National Center of Health Statistics (NCHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will present the diagnosis (CM) topics during the virtual meeting. Attendees must register for the meeting at Webinar Registration – Zoom. The CDC and NCHS will make all materials available at https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/icd/icd-10-maintenance/meetings.html.

Attending this virtual meeting or reading the code proposals provides insight into the code development, as well as clinical information attached to the code. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) provides continuing education credits as well.

As you are preparing for this meeting, don’t forget to prepare for the new ICD-10 codes that become effective Oct. 1, and identify the NTAPs that your facility uses.
