Is there any news about the 2018 CPT lab codes?
Answer:
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued preliminary information on the new 2018 lab codes in preparation for the annual public meeting.
For 2018, molecular pathology codes lead the way with the highest number of additions. There also is one new code for genomic sequencing procedures and other molecular multianalyte assays as well as four codes for multianalyte assays with algorithmic analyses, two codes for immunology, and two codes for microbiology. There also are 17 new codes to report proprietary lab analyses, and the following “other” codes:
| 02X1T | Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) for five or more separately reported high-risk HPV types (e.g., 16,18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 68) (ie, genotyping) |
| G0499 | Hepatitis B screening in nonpregnant, high-risk individual includes hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) followed by a neutralizing confirmatory test for initially reactive results, and antibodies to HBsAg (anti-HBs) and hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) |
Last but not least, there are five “reconsideration requests”: 81327, G0480, G0481, G0482 and G0483.
