For IFR what is the difference for codes 93571 and 93572? What is the difference in what the codes represent?
Understand that IFR provides the same measurement without the use of adenosine or a stressing agent. This procedure may also be performed following an intervention. Code +93571 represents distal coronary blood flow velocity measurements performed in the initial vessel studied. Examination of additional vessels during the same session is reported using code +93572 and is listed in addition to code +93571. Code +93572 should be reported separately for each additional vessel examined. Currently, CMS recognizes five coronary vessels within the heart. Do not report 93572 for branches. If IFR is performed, modifier 52 would apply since there was no pharmacological administration performed.
