Question:

We are confused about the new 2022 codes for congenital cardiac catheterization. Which code is used for studies such as an indicator dilution study like thermodilution when it comes to catheterization for congenital heart defects? What about codes for reporting contrast injections?

Answer:

For indicator dilution studies such as thermodilution for cardiac output measurement during cardiac catheterization for congenital heart defect(s), use 93598. For contrast injections during cardiac catheterization for congenital heart defect(s), see corresponding codes 93563, 93564, 93565, 93566, 93567, and 93568.
