All-Star Presenters Announced for New Webcast Series

Amid a crowded galaxy of well-known regulatory and process subject-matter experts, five extraordinary respected and renowned healthcare professionals are poised to lead a new series of educational webcasts for both RACmonitor and ICD10monitor.

The series, collectively titled “The Open Door Forum,” will include eight key topics, and will supplement the ongoing news and information published weekly by RACmonitor and ICD10monitor.

“The concept is to provide an open door to the latest developments in regulatory news and healthcare policy,” ICD10monitor and RACmonitor Publisher Chuck Buck said.

Today’s article profiles two of the five presenters:

  • Penny Jefferson (MSN, RN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CCS, CDIP, CRC, CHDA, CRCR, CPHQ, ACPA-C) will be presenting two of the eight segments, on the topics of LGBTQ+ issues and Revenue Cycle.
  • As the Manager of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) at the University of California-Davis, Ms. Jefferson oversees a team of CDI specialists who ensure the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding and documentation across the health system. She boasts more than a quarter-century of experience in the hospital and healthcare industry, holding a Master of Science in Nursing Informatics and multiple certifications in CDI, coding, and health informatics.

Having previously served at Mayo Clinic locations in Arizona and Minnesota, most recently as Supervisor of CDI, Ms. Jefferson was also a certified Clinical Documentation Specialist in the greater Denver area for a decade prior to that. Her core competencies include nursing, critical care, medicine, and health information technology, and she is passionate about improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery and outcomes through data-driven and evidence-based practices.

  • H. Steven Moffic, MD, will also be presenting for a pair of webinars, on Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Topics.

An award-winning author and internationally renowned psychiatrist whose fifth book, “The Ethical Way: Challenges & Solutions for Managed Behavioral Health,” is considered a seminal study on healthcare ethics, Dr. Moffic is in virtually constant demand as a featured speaker and has attracted a national audience with his three blogs: Psychiatry Times, Behavior Healthcare, and Over 65.

Dr. Moffic’s career achievements are staggering: he was the recipient of the prestigious Administrative Psychiatry Award from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American Association of Psychiatrist Administrators (AAPA), the Abraham Halpern Humanitarian Award from the American Association for Social Psychiatry, and the one-time designation of being a Hero of Public Psychiatry from the Speaker of the Assembly of the APA. He also earned the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in 1991.

Dr. Moffic has specialized in the cultural and ethical aspects of psychiatry and is now in semi-retirement as a private pro bono community psychiatrist. He is a tireless advocate for mental health issues related to climate instability, physician burnout, and xenophobia.

“This series is being prepared for subscribers to both RACmonitor and ICD10monitor,” Buck said. “It’s designed to provide exclusive access to vital information about top trending topics that are impacting healthcare from a compliance and auditing lens.”

Buck, who also hosts Monitor Mondays and Talk Ten Tuesdays, two weekly live podcasts, will host this series with each respective presenter.

“These will be live, fast-paced, 30-minute webcasts,” he explained. “The sessions have been designed to provide healthcare professionals with the information they need for real-time insights.”
