Are there any restrictions on the types of specimens that can be assigned CPT® codes for drug-analysis procedures?
Answer:
Unless otherwise specified in the code descriptor the CPT may be applied to any specimen type including oral fluid, meconium, or hair. The drug analysis procedures are not limited to urine, plasma or serum.
