How many times per episode can we report 94640?
Answer:
According to the 2017 National Correct Coding Initiative, code 94640 is reportable once per episode of care regardless of the number of treatments administered. If the patient is discharged and returns later in the same day, a second charge for 94640 may be reported with modifier 76 appended.
When billing for multiple (back-to-back) inhalation therapy treatments, refer to CPT codes 94644 and 94645 when the total time recorded for the therapy meets the time increment of one hour or more as defined by the codes.
