Just one month earlier, Election Day, November 4, 2008, CMS announced that it was delaying the rollout of the RAC program due to the much-reported dispute involving two potential RACs (PRG Schultz USA, Inc. and Viant, Inc.) who were not selected by CMS as part of the national, permanent RAC program. The Bid Protest Date would be in February and, as it turned out, RACMonitor was the first to break the news announcing a settlement – it would be the first of several other “scoops” we would publish as RACAlerts.


What’s New?


“So what are you doing for me today?” you might ask. We’re expanding our editorial board from our initial eight charter members. Most recent additions include Carol A. Spencer, BA, RHIA CCS, CHDA, Randy Wiitala, BS, MT (ASCP), and Barbara Vandergrift, RN, BSN, MA from MedLearn. Most importantly, we’re actively looking for providers to submit articles on their facility’s RAC experience and RAC preparedness activities.


Starting in January we’re inaugurating MonitorMonday, a live and lively half-hour podcast featuring Servais who will be joined by Nancy Beckley, MB, MBA, CHC, and one of our contributing editors. Listen and learn as others from RACMonitor will be reporting on the week’s upcoming activities. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the inimical Dennis Jones reporting on CMS news or describing a conference he’ll be covering. Podcast times: 7 AM PT, 10 AM ET.


In January, we launch InFocus, a series of engaging, thought-provoking podcasts on critical issues and developments shaping the audit-centric healthcare environment.


And beyond the RACs, our parent company, NationsMonitor, will be launching MICMonitor in the First Quarter. We are actively searching for providers who are experiencing the MIC audits. Please send us an email if you have an article you’d like to share with other providers.
